PHEOBE PHILO
- the woman who changed your wardrobe (even if you didn’t realise it)
Phoebe Philo rose to fashion prominence in 2001, when she took over for Stella McCartney as creative director of Chloé. In 2008, Philo was appointed creative director of Celine. Creating a number of sophisticated, minimalist pieces, she brought functionality to the forefront, introducing “building blocks” for women who invest in pieces knowing that they will wear them every day for years to come.
The idea of having a uniform is something she has long championed – knowing key shapes and pieces, rather than dressing according to the whims of fashion trends.
A true pioneer, she was was amongst the first to cast older models like Joan Didion, popularise Adidas’ Stan Smith sneakers, and of course, the fur-lined Birkenstocks.
After announcing her return to fashion in 2021, her forthcoming fashion label will debut in September 2023.
A SLO fave, @oldceline pays homage to all things Philo 2008 - 2018.
